Sébastien Cuquemelle, president of the Probent group, and Ludovic Letouzé, managing director, at the Bayeux site where Sominex has become the company Probent Technology.
A specialist in precision mechanics, Sominex was taken over in January 2020 by the Probent group to become Probent Technology. TO Bayeux (Calvados), the group, in full swing, is recruiting.
In September 2018, in Cherbourg, Sébastien Cuquemelle, Ludovic Letouzé and Philippe Le Rossignol took over the NSB company, with 36 employees. In January 2021, the NSB-Probent structure represented 140 jobs, spread over different sites in the Paris region, in Manche and in Calvados. In Bayeux, and Colombelles. But also in Sydney, Australia, giving the Probent group an international dimension. “We have recruited an employee whom we have never seen apart from videoconferences! », Says Sébastien Cuquemelle, president of the group.
“Reach 200 employees by 2022”
In just three years, and notably by taking over the Sominex plant in Bayeux, the Probent group has achieved impressive growth. With 13 million euros in turnover in 2020, and prospects that command respect.
We have the objective of 20 million euros in turnover in 2021, and the wish to reach 200 employees in 2022.
Sominex (Bayeux) became the Probent Trechnology company, contributing to the growth of the group, which thus diversified its catalog. “We can thus take market share in places in which we had only a weak presence”. The activity of the Probent group is based on the ability to carry out projects from A to Z in areas ranging from aeronautics to nuclear (39% of activity), including scientific research (13% of ‘activity).
Winner of the Recovery Plan, Probent has the capacity to invest in a new machine which will join its Colombelles site, specializing in electronics. “We carry out electronic card prototyping”. By hand. “But when we have an order, the customer asks for a pre-run of 5,000 to 10,000 cards, not fifty.”

It is therefore impossible to respond to such a request by working manually.
This is why we are going to be able to buy a machine which realizes is capable of placing the electronic components on the board. The production speed depends on the density of the components that make up the board.
Probent Technology struggles to recruit
A machine made in France and costing € 600,000, which the State Recovery Plan allows to finance at 50%. “We are thus saving nearly three years on our investments”. But the strength of Probent, in particular its Bayerian subsidiary Probent Technology, lies in its human know-how.
And the company is lacking in arms. “In Bayeux, our specialty is precision mechanics and welding which allow the machining of vacuum chambers, parts intended for scientific research”, explains the president. With 45 employees, Probent Technology is struggling to recruit the few jobs that could make the difference. “Including boilermaker and welder positions. But also logisticians ”.

This software publisher, which notably offers reservation solutions to airlines, has rebounded by more than 400% on the stock market since last summer. The gradual reopening of the economy, exacerbated by the extreme weakness of the free float, explains this performance.

It is certainly one of the most incredible recoveries in the stock market in less than a year. In Paris, the shares of Travel Technology Interactive, which were worth just over 1 euro last summer, are now trading at 6 euros, up more than 80% since the start of the year. . Admittedly, the trading volumes are extremely low (around a hundred titles per day at best), due to a free float which represents only 5% of the capital, but the company is also evolving in a buoyant sector per hour. the gradual reopening of the economy, namely travel.
TTI offers airlines and airports reservation software, e-ticket issuance, check-in and boarding solutions, as well as flight program or cargo management applications. Where Galileo or Amadeus, with whom – for the latter – a partnership was formed in 2005, target large airlines, the Parisian software publisher targets medium-sized players (regional and low-cost), all over the place. in the world: in Europe, Africa, the Americas, the Caribbean, the Middle East, South-East Asia and the Pacific. The Europe-Africa-Middle East region accounts for around 40% of revenue, according to FactSet data, ahead of Brazil (29%).
Losses in the first half of 2020
The company, globally growing since 2016, and which returned to profit in 2019, still posted green accounts in the first half of 2020 despite a 26% drop in turnover (after + 8% over the first three months of the year). “The health crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic has seriously affected the transport sector, explained the management at the time of publication of the accounts at the end of October. Sanitary measures and border closures led to the worst post-war economic crisis ever. Travel restrictions and containment measures imposed on all continents have had a considerable impact on air transport demand, and correlatively on the activity of our customers who for weeks operated at less than 10% of their capacity. regular flights. ” She also specified that «unforeseen events linked to the pandemic did not give rise to any termination of the contract ” more than “Ad hoc discussions [étaient] in progress with some of them in order to rearrange certain contractual obligations without significant prejudice to the parties. ” TTI then said it had provisioned 191,000 euros for trade receivables, mainly on its Brazilian subsidiary.
The 2020 accounts will be published at the end of the month.

The Technology Innovation Institute (TII), the applied research pillar of the Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) Abu Dhabi, today announced that its Cryptography Research Center (Cryptography Research Center, CRC) had launched the UAE’s first secure cloud technologies program, aimed at boosting advanced technologies that improve data privacy and cloud encryption schemes.

Dr Najwa Aaraj, Chief Research Officer, Cryptography Research Centre, Technology Innovation Institute (Photo: Business Wire)
The TII said the goal of its Secure Cloud Technologies program is to advance Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PET), including Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE), a form encryption system that allows users to perform calculations on encrypted data without first decrypting it, and to secure Multi-Party Computation (MPC), by creating methods that allow the parties involved to jointly calculate a function on their entrances while keeping these entrances private. This line of research will be coupled to the field of verifiable computation for machine learning, in order to provide proof of accuracy for an inference-as-a-service use case, when data privacy is not required.
The responsible research team is also partnering with the hardware cryptography team to develop FHE hardware accelerators, in order to offload certain IT tasks to specialized hardware components within the system, thus enabling greater efficiency.
Speaking during the announcement, His Excellency Faisal Al Bannai, Secretary General of the Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC), said, “Cloud computing has experienced significant growth over the past decade, which has raised security and privacy concerns. Traditional approaches still require data decryption for processing, and a key management system, centralized in the cloud, thus exposing the data and the secret key to cloud providers. This underlines the importance of the launch of this program by our researchers at the Cryptography Research Center, TII. ”
Dr. Najwa Aaraj, Chief Researcher at the Cryptography Research Center, underlined for his part: “The FHE makes it possible to perform arbitrarily complex and dynamically chosen calculations on data, while the latter remain encrypted, despite the absence of a secret decryption key. Additionally, the FHE is a key enabler for Multi-Party Computing Protocols (MPCs) implementing unconscious federated learning models, which are on the rise in the transfer of critical infrastructure data. ”
“The TII’s implementation of the secret-sharing-based MPC takes advantage of the building blocks of the FHE, to provide active security and optimized preprocessing, helping to accelerate the unconscious implementation of machine learning models.” She explained. In addition, “the FHE retains a high intensity of calculations. TII researchers are also developing hardware accelerators, based on the analysis of major components and operations, and targeted enhancements, using ASIC and several FPGA platforms. Another direction includes implementation on on-board processors with an extensible instruction set architecture. ”
The Cryptography Research Center, one of the first seven, specialized research centers of the Technology Innovation Institute, employs and collaborates with scientists in several areas of cryptography, such as post-quantum cryptography, physical cryptography, lightweight cryptography, cryptanalysis, cryptographic protocols, and cloud encryption schemes, among others. The Center is also among the few in the world to bring together theoretical and applied cryptographers in a research-oriented setting. Cryptographers collaborate on groundbreaking research projects that lead to innovative results.

From June 16 to 19, 2021, the event will take place in a hybrid format. That is to say face-to-face at Gate of Versailles and for the first time in line. The on-site gauge is set at 5,000 people per day in compliance with health measures. For this, the organizers announced during a briefing conference on Wednesday, June 2, 2021: “There will be several ways to access Viva Technology. The first will be to be vaccinated and the second to have a PCR or antigen test of less than 48 hours. It will also be possible to be tested on site.“

Boom! It’s a cannon shot … or a plane going through the sound barrier. Entrepreneur Blake Scholl launched Boom Technology in 2014 in pursuit of a dream, relaunching the epic of civilian supersonic, eleven years after the abrupt end of the Concorde adventure. He is not an aeronautical engineer, has not yet flown any plane, but he has just won the contract of the century. The airline United Airlines has just placed an order for 15 supersonic planes (and 35 others optional), capable in 2030 of taking 88 passengers from New York to London in three and a half hours. Twice as fast as with a conventional airliner.

So, while the atmosphere of these post-Covid times pushes many city dwellers to find long time, proximity and a less furious and more ecological way of life, some are taking up the speed race of the 1980s. Poitiers, Léonore Moncond’huy, caused a sensation in March by asserting that aeronautics should no longer be part of a child’s dreams. Obviously, this is not the case for everyone.
A very wealthy clientele
United Airlines is seriously considering creating regular lines between America and Europe or Japan, all the same intended for a very wealthy clientele. Because, after twenty years of racing for low prices, performance will be expensive. Especially since Blake Scholl promises that his plane, called Overture, will be neutral in terms of CO emissions2, through the use of biofuels. A luxury market which is not the priority of Boeing and Airbus but that the UBS bank estimates to be able to reach 160 billion dollars in 2040. Japan Airlines has also invested in Boom. The prototype will make its first flight within a year.

In 1986, the Italian food critic Carlo Petrini, offended to see a McDonald’s restaurant set up on the famous piazza di Spagna in Rome, created the “slow food” movement, a more peaceful, closer, ecological and qualitative way of eating. facing the ravages of fast food. Slowness assumed against a world in too much of a hurry, as in the past when Paul Lafargue, in 1880, claimed the right to laziness. This tension is expressed today around environmental issues. Should we make our fast food restaurants, our cars and our planes greener, with new technologies, or put them away in the garage and change society? Meanwhile, it is likely that in 2030 we will be careful, in Boom planes, to serve organic vegetables to the happy passengers.

Viva Technology, the biggest tech and start-up event in Europe, will take place in “phygital” from June 16 to 19, 2021: one foot in the Porte de Versailles exhibition center in Paris, the other in the digital platform. Like 13,000 start-ups from 125 countries, the French delegation from the Southern Region will present its 37 young shoots during the event.
Even if Viva Tech is renewed, the pandemic changes some rules of the game: start-ups will have to alternate between face-to-face at the show (two days) and digital (two days). Nevertheless, it will be possible to “network” during the four days, until the end of November thanks to digital support.
An important event for the South Region
“In 2016, we were the first region to participate in Viva Tech. We believed in it from the start ” declares Françoise Bruneteaux, vice-president of the Southern Region in charge of the digital economy and new technologies, during the press conference on May 25 (see also our previous article). This year, she believes that “Viva Tech’s themes are in perfect harmony with the Region’s strategy and core investment” which is betting on focusing on four of them: technology for the environment, mobility-energy, connectivity-5G and then health-well-being.
Out of 120 projects, 37 start-ups were selected for Viva Tech, 32 of which are participating for the first time. As evoked by Vincent Violain, the director of partnerships at Viva Tech, the primary vocation of the event “Is business-centric” to allow start-ups to show off, attract investors and arouse the interest of the public or future partners. With a network of 3,300 investors announced, the South Region “Must attract foreign investment and come and seek the talents of others” enthuses Françoise Bruneteaux.

NepTech (Aix-en-Provence)

In the phase of a fundraising of 1.2 million euros, NepTech is making a place for itself in bluetech. Its electric propulsion catamaran of 12 by 24 meters, wants to answer “To the problems of congestion and pollution in urban centers” explains Tanguy Goetz, one of the three co-founders. The start-up offers a modular platform of electric ships that comes in three finishes: the NepShuttle (regular passenger transport), the NepCargo (freight transport) and the NepYacht (tourist / leisure transport) that can carry up to 150 passengers or twenty tonnes of goods. Already labeled GreenTech by the Ministry of Ecological Transition and resident at the Arbois nursery, NepTech will take advantage of Viva Tech to promote its 2.5-meter prototype.

Chargepoly (Aix-en-Provence)

Chargepoly, labeled Cap Énergie and Asad Sud-Est, is developing fast, smart and optimized charging stations for electric vehicle fleets. Chargepoly’s Multi-VE Station is designed for “Process fast charging in the same place according to an intelligent priority schedule” indicates Hadi Moussavi, the creator. He continues that ” thissolution is important for communities ” because it can recharge a vehicle in 15 minutes minimum and half an hour maximum. The young company announces that it wants to raise 800,000 euros in equity funds (process over a few months).
Erylon (Aix-en-Provence)
Clean-Kong robots (Credit: DR)
Erylon is developing the first industrial glass facade cleaning robot called “Clean-Kong”. Knowing that the number of glazed buildings increases by 20% each year, the start-up can be optimistic. Clean-Kong was designed with an ecological concern since it consumes only three liters of pure water per 100 m2, and with a societal concern because it avoids employee exposure to work at height.
Maca (Aix-en-Provence)

After attending CES Las Vegas 2021, Maca returns to Viva Tech with his hydrogen powered vehicle. The Aix-based start-up, which has been developing its prototype for three years, had planned the release of its prototype (scale 1/3 to 2.5 meters) at the end of 2021 with a fundraising of 300,000 euros which is underway. Viva Tech will be the opportunity for Maca to present the machine in virtual reality: “With their laptop, people will be able to inspect the machine” indicates the co-founder Thierry de Boisvilliers to Gomet ‘.

At first glance, the Illumine, the newest creation from Neunaber Technology, doesn’t quite look like a traditional stompbox. Its fairly compact chassis accommodates a screen, two foot switches and only two knobs. The pedal has no less than 17 reverb algorithms, from the most classic (Plate, Room), to the most stellar. The pedal comes with fifty factory presets carefully crafted by the brand so you can use the pedal right out of the box. Fifty other locations are available to store your own presets. The preset management software allows you to organize all this as well as possible.
The pedal is stereo input and output and integrates the MIDI protocol on TRS mini-jack plugs. Another mini-jack plug allows you to use an expression pedal with the Illumine. However, the brand has equipped its pedal with a very well thought-out expression engine and you can, thanks to the A / B foot switch, switch from one preset to another by varying the transition time. The audio engine that generates and processes the reverb algorithms is obviously digital, but the signal is routed from input to output without conversion. Depending on the brand, this allows one to overcome latency and maintain the integrity of the audio signal.
Illumine can be used with Line or Instrument levels thanks to its adjustable gain level which is well thought out.
Finally, a big advantage of Illumine and not the least, the pedal consumes 100mA which is very little for a reverb. Made in California at Neunaber Technology’s premises, Illumine will be available at the end of August for a special price of $ 379. The latter will then be $ 479.
Go to the product page to see audio clips of all the algorithms.

A hybrid event for an enhanced experience
After its cancellation in 2020, VivaTech adapts to the health context by offering a hybrid business event, between digital and physical. The show covers the 25,000 m2 of Hall 1 at Porte de Versailles in strict compliance with sanitary conditions. The daily capacity of the public will be limited to 5000 people, the wearing of the mask and the sanitary pass will be compulsory.
VivaTech is also launching a digital platform to allow the community to experience the event remotely. Conference channels are set up to follow the highlights of the show live. In addition to digital networking rooms, viewers will have the opportunity to see 500 innovations modeled in 3D / AR.
Three days (June 16, 17 and 18) will be reserved for professionals. They will connect start-ups, large companies and visitors. The day of Saturday, June 19 will be open to the general public.
Tech in response to major societal challenges
This year again, VivaTech wants to resonate with our times. Major themes will be addressed: digital transformation (accelerated by the health crisis), inclusion in the world of tech and start-ups, the future of work and the impact of tech in the climate crisis.
This 5th edition welcomes prestigious speakers such as Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook), Tim Cool (Apple), Peggy Johnson (Magic Leap), Will Shu (Deliveroo), Brad Smith (Microsoft), Marie Barbesol (Klaxoon), Julia Bijaoui (Frichti ) …
Viva Technology 2019 (JC Guilloux)
Le Femal Founder Challenge
Women are still clearly under-represented in the tech industry. A problem that often comes up in public debates. To remedy this and try to make things happen, VivaTech is organizing the Femal Fouder Challenge this year, a competition which aims to give better visibility to women entrepreneurs and thus facilitate their access to investment funds.
10 women will come to pitch their projects, among which Deborah Gael (founder of Koolboks), Marie Amigues (founder of Alocai) or even Nathalie Maubon (HCS pharma).
