When you look at the results list from Rio and now in Tokyo, are you very satisfied?
I am. I started the last lap well on Saturday and believed that I could still jump by the standings. But that’s probably how it should be. I put everything into the tournament. I was fine. I’m definitely proud of myself.
This year, you only played better at the tournament in Hawaii, where you finished twelfth on the LPGA Tour. So you hid one of your best golfers for the Olympics?
It was one of the best performances on my part in Hawaii. I’m happy for the result here. This is how I would like to play every week.

Are the performances from the Olympic tournament an encouragement for the next part of the season?
Certainly. It’s a journey. At the LET circuit, I also basically started to prosper after four years. I don’t have a rocket launch, but I need to get used to it a bit. America is a completely new experience for me, now I finally feel more at home there. It took a while. We’ll see what comes, but I’m really happy with the result from Tokyo.
Was it known that you played at the Olympics for the second time and did it better?
Definitely yes. In Rio, I didn’t know what awaited me. I never knew I would play the Olympics because there was no golf. As a little girl, I never dreamed of it like athletes. I definitely did better in Tokyo. I knew what awaited me at the second Olympics in my career. I was looking forward to a great atmosphere. I went to work out the tournament, but at the same time enjoy the Olympic village.
You’re in the same situation as tennis players, who are used to a certain comfort. You usually spend time in hotel resorts. What is life like for you in the Olympic Village?
Very nice. When I get back from the court, everyone knows how I played. I don’t normally do that in a tournament. I go to the room where I am alone. I like people and this suits me very well. When I got up at three in the morning on Saturday and set off in the direction of the field, the other athletes wished me good luck. It was incredibly encouraging, it gave me energy.

Will you be looking to take part in the games in Paris, which are already three years old?
I hope so. But I don’t want to push anywhere. I’ll take it year after year. When Paris comes out, I’ll be glad. Two Olympics are already great for me and if it was the third, I would take it to all ten. But I don’t know, my life is very open now.
So no extra motivation to try on the third attempt to win a position in the elite ten at the Olympic tournament?
If 23rd place from Tokyo were to remain the best result of my Olympic career and then I would be beaten by other girls who come after me, I would be very happy. I hope I’m leading a golf example and maybe they’ll beat me one day, because it’s really not easy at all. I am very proud of the result.

Leo Windtner will no longer stand for the presidential election at the Ordinary General Meeting of the Austrian Football Association (ÖFB) on October 17th. He announced this on Friday at the request of the APA. He had also brought this to the attention of the chairman of the election committee, Wolfgang Bartosch, in a letter. He would be happy to initiate the desired generation change in the ÖFB presidium with his retirement.
Windtner has been leading by far the largest sports association in the state since February 2009. In March, the Upper Austrian announced that he would be available for another four years.
