Remake of the successful Spanish production of 2017, “La casa de papel”. (Netflix)

To start with, I can assure you that The paper house: Korea It is one of the best adaptations that the streaming giant has been able to do, Netflix, about a successful production, The paper house (2017)Spanish series. This, taking into account that it had very high standards, since the original version was so notorious and celebrated. The remake had to take it out of the stadium so as not to disappoint. And in my opinion, of course he didn’t.

Although this new version is very good, it would not do justice to the original production to say that this Korean adaptation is much better, as others say, since, being the first Spanish version, it had a lot more work to do and yet, they did great. So much so that, if it had not been so, a remake would not have been released. Of that we are sure.

“The paper house: Korea”, has as its original title “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area”. (Netflix)

The paper house: Korea It is a great show that makes a product with marked touches, different and exciting, as well as standing on its own. South Korean action-drama series, Netflix original, premiered on June 24 of this month on the renowned streaming platform. It is directed by Kim Hong Sun and written by Kim Hwan-chae Y Ryu Yong-jaeand adapts the original script of alex pinagenerating a beautiful remake.

New actors who are part of the band in the South Korean version. (Netflix)

Unlike many who from their emotions are belittling The paper house: KoreaIn my person, I do this rating in a more analytical and objective way, because everything was adapted so exceptionally, in addition to keeping it but at the same time separating it a bit from the typical Korean drama series. This is because of the way it is presented.

A scene that will surely cause controversy in the South Asian country may be the very explicit sex scene between Denver and the director’s ex-lover. A shot that is part of the few or almost nothing seen in South Korean projects due to the conservativeness of that country. That it begins to get out of the margins a little, without bordering on the ordinary, I loved it. In addition, the subtle changes in the script and the tone of this series, makes it as good a work as the original. No more no less.

The plot of the series starts perfectly with a reference to nothing more and nothing less than BTS, where the protagonist is a girl from North Korea who is part of the “Army” of the South Korean musical superband. And she tells us that, unlike other fans or Armys around the world, she is part of an army that fights in the war between the two countries. This story shows a moment when the war between these two nations ends, so they decide to work together to build an economic project that will make them a world power. This is how we are put in the context of this story that takes place in 2025.

Ever since the Breaking Bad spin-off centered on lawyer Saul Goodman was announced, many fans of the series have wondered how its creator, Vince Gilligam was going to introduce the two protagonists of the original series. And despite the fact that at first it did not seem like an option that was going to come true, finally it has happened in season six of Better Call Saul.

As a way of saying goodbye to the fans with the last batch of episodes of the adventures of the lawyer played by Bob Odenkirk, Gilligan has introduced the expected cameo of Walter White and Jesse Pinkman in the second batch of episodes that are going to be released in season six. A cameo that for Bryan Cranston was “surreal” to shoot because of all the secrecy.

“It was surreal. Aaron Paul and I had to coordinate our schedules so that we could both be available when filming for Season 6 began.. So we recorded it a year ago, in April. And since we were somewhere else shooting the scene, the truth is that I didn’t even know what episode they were going to put it in, because they didn’t shoot it in order.”

“We flew to New Mexico in complete secrecy. They even put us in an Airbnb house that we were not allowed to leave. A lot of things happened, it was very exciting. But since everything was secret, we couldn’t tell anything for a year,” Cranston recalled in an interview with the Radio Times.

Better Call Saul

A secret that was broken with the premiere of the sixth season of Better Call Saul after its creator, Vince Gilligan tweeted a photo in which the two are seen inside a car. Like many other series, the one starring Bob Odenkirk premiered its first seven episodes on April 18, while the last five arrive from July 11.

For his part, Aaron Paul has ensured that fans of the series will be very “satisfied” with the cameo of his character and that of Cranston, because although he admits that he did not trust his appearance too much, the result has seemed great.

Consisting of sculptures and objects from India, Tibet, Nepal and China, the two collections presented for sale by Bonhams, one in June, the other in October, have some similarities. They were collected by Western enthusiasts, but with very different approaches.

The first collection, the first part of which – out of four – was sold on June 14, 2022, belonged to Claude de Marteau, a true old-fashioned adventurer. “Left from Brussels, he wanted to reach the United States, got stuck in Morocco, went the other way and set out to cross Asia by hitchhiking, laughs Edward Wilkinson, department manager of Bonhams. He then went back and forth between Brussels and Asia for about ten years, from 1956 to 1965.”

In the trunk of his Cadillac, the adventurer brought back sculptures then totally unknown on the Western market: a relief panel, in schist, representing Buddha entering Rajagriha around the IIe century, sold for 78,495 euros, or a sandstone Ganesh stele from the 10the century, pre-empted by the Guimet Museum for 75,975 euros. The sale totaled nearly 3.5 million euros in total, an amount to which the gray schist Buddha from Gandhara contributed significantly, soaring to 567,375 euros.

This region located at the crossroads of exchanges between China, India and the West has undergone multiple influences, which can be found on this statue steeped in classical Greek culture. It was one of Claude de Marteau’s specialties. The study of this collection, in the hands of Bonhams since 2016, has allowed research, in particular on the workshops and monasteries from which the sculptures come: “The attributions are always complex, because of oral traditions and Chinese repression, especially at the time of the Cultural Revolution”underlines the expert. “If Claude de Marteau had a very great aesthetic sense, acquired alone since there is no trace of the existence of a mentor in this field, he did not always know everything about his works”, he adds.

Any other atmosphere in the family owning the second collection, auctioned on October 25 and 26: the Rousset. Heir Mike Winter-Rousset carefully keeps archives dating back to the origins of this collection, in the 1920s. No adventurer on this side, but an insurer, Robert Rousset, who, after visiting the Forbidden City in Beijing, launches into the trade of ancient Asian art. He then bought the gallery of the Compagnie de la Chine et des Indes, which has remained in the family until today.

ReportageHail, drought, early heat wave: farmers are exposed to increasingly intense climatic pressures. To minimize risk, some diversify. A path that requires reorganizing the sectors.

“You may be a good technician, it’s the climate that does everything. » Michel Chambrillon shows his plot of peas, a large part of which is in the process of necrosis. On Sunday June 5, part of this farmer’s fields in Aube, near Troyes, was under a hailstorm. The impact of the hailstones was such that a majority of pea pods were split. “On each foot, we have six or seven pods, of which five on average are punctured and will be lost. » The few lower pods, less exposed, have been able to resist more and should be ready to be harvested in mid-July. In total, Michel Chambrillon estimates the losses at 70% for this field.

“Hail is the most damaging thing. During my first twenty years of operation, I had hail twice. But since 2015, I’ve been hailed four times. And yet, it is only one of the elements of the climate that affects us! »

Hail, late frosts, drought, early heat… Michel Chambrillon, 51, is well placed to see climate change accelerate. From 2016 to 2020, his 98 hectare farm – a large size when he settled there twenty-six years ago, taking over the farm from his uncle, but today in the lower average of the department –, located in Marigny-le-Chatel, was monitored by the Solagro association, which specializes in forecasting work and support for farmers, as part of a European research program on adaptation to climate change, AgriAdapt.

Strategic choices

Some 120 farms took part in the project in different European countries (including around thirty in France, representative of the different cropping systems) to study their current and future climate vulnerabilities and identify levers for adaptation.

“When the program started in 2016, we were at the beginning of reflection on adaptation to climate change. Few still caredrecalls Nicolas Métayer, deputy director of Solagro and responsible for the AgriAdapt project. We thought we would be in anticipation of phenomena to come. And finally, we lived them in the interval of the program. » The objective of this initiative was not to compare farms with each other or to establish a ranking of the most resilient practices, “it was more a matter of supporting each operator in their strategic choices, with a case-by-case inventory”says Nicolas Métayer.

By using agroclimatic indicators, Solagro was able to establish for each farmer a localized list of climatic pressures. “The big click is to manage to move from thinking about the weather, which farmers do every day, to thinking about the climate, to understand the major trends that are coming.continues Nicolas Métayer. Farmers have always adapted. But today, you have to be able to implement changes in a much shorter time than before. »

Questioned this Sunday by the RTS on the sidelines of his trial, Michel Platini settled his accounts with FIFA using particularly strong words.

Michel Platini on a crusade against FIFA

Prosecuted for an allegedly unfair payment of two million Swiss francs dating from 2011, the former president of UEFA, Michel Platini, appeared in recent days before the federal criminal court in Bellinzona, Switzerland.

Swiss justice requested a year and eight months of suspended prison sentence against him pending the pronouncement of the judgment, on July 8.

FIFA and the Swiss justice system according to Platini

For his part, the 67-year-old retaliated and filed a complaint in France last April against his ex-right-hand man Gianni Infantino, now FIFA President, for active influence peddling. In 2015, when he was aiming for the presidency of the football governing body, it suspended Platini from all football-related activity, preventing him from running for office. Denouncing a plot, the Frenchman justified his fight this Sunday on the airwaves of RTS.

I am attacking two very strong organizations: Swiss justice and FIFA billions. It’s hard to fight them, but I still fight against them because I know there is a collusion and they did a lot of things between themselves. Humanly, you are in the fight, the battle. It’s something that pleases me and has always pleased me. I don’t give up, I won’t give up and I’ll go all the wayfirst promised the former leader before specifying his accusations. our business will not end here, because I think that there is a shameful system at FIFA level which does, but that, I understood it very late, that there is money to be elected, to give, and that there are all these commissions – ethics commission, TAS – which are the armed wing to protect itself. FIFA is held by an administration which has all the means to protect itself. It’s hard to beat them.

Platini admits defeat, but…

Despite his determination to succeed, the former number ten of the Blues admits that the damage has already been done and his career as a leader ruined. I lost, FIFA has already won. It’s been seven years since they took away any ambition I could possibly have had in world football. It’s finish. Seven years, it’s over, they won. Moreover, there is a man who worked in FIFA communications and who said: ‘anyway, we don’t care, even if there is nothing, because in seven years, professionally he will be dead’, confided Platoche. Even dead professionally, the winner of Euro 1984 is far from having surrendered against his former colleagues…

No disappointment is avoided. Whether mechanical, sentimental (from her Parisian boyfriend to Roberto and his big motorbike) or ideological. And there the film becomes downright fascinating.

The studio return of Porcupine Tree is one of the most sought-after music events of the year in progrock circles. On the album “Closure / Continuation” are Steven Wilson & spol. after thirteen years back. Was it worth reopening the group’s story and adding another chapter to it?

In one of the interviews for the new album, Steven Wilson made it clear that he was definitely not planning a decade-long break in Porcupine Tree (if we take the distance between studio albums, we’ll even get to thirteen years). On the other hand, his workaholism is not surprising. He managed to release five successful solo series, one record with Mikeal Åkerfeldt from Opeth and remastered a number of older recordings by many artists – his range ranges from Jethro Tull to Tears For Fears.

And others? Keyboardist Richard Barbieri continued to develop his solo career, and drummer Gavin Harrison focused mainly on The Pineapple Thief, but also appeared in the live line-up of King Crimson legends. Bassist Colin Edwin also released several of his own recordings, but did not join the reunion. Partly because he broke off contact with other colleagues from the band, partly because even on older albums, Wilson took care of the bass duties for the most part. The novelty, which you can buy in several editions in our shop (and add some older items of the group’s discography), follows where the Porcupine Tree studio ended on “The Incident” in 2009, and at the same time benefits from the experience that musicians over the decades spent outside of co-creation. The fundamental components of the band’s sound, ie progressive rock techniques, complicated rhythmic structure, longer footage of the songs and virtuoso performances, however, are not at the expense of audience accessibility. Porcupine Tree in their time helped design modern progressive rock. However, Wilson transferred this quest more to his solo work, to “Closure / Continuation” (by the way, a name that opens up the potential for further joint work), he relies more on what they have tried together before. This is a bit of a fate for return plates: they rely on certainties rather than trying to discover new territories. Fortunately, the Wilson-Barbieri-Harrison trio is musically experienced enough to be able to present even proven procedures quite modernly, freshly and familiarly, but without a relentless feeling of self-theft. From the opening opus of “Harridan”, which opens with dark bass, nervous drums and vibrating chords for synthesizers, we are undoubtedly at home and in this familiar musical landscape we will not get lost until the final, well-graduated nine-minute “Chimera’s Wreck”, where we hear the echo of King Crimson. Porcupine Tree plays with elements of silence – the aforementioned opening track breaks after the third minute, softens, and then suddenly gives space to almost metal riffs and disturbing electronic surfaces. Typical wave movement, twists, musical tension – this band has not lost the ability to build dramatic compositions. Steven Wilson is a capable melodist and has been honing this talent on his own albums for years. He can pour strong and supportive melodic ideas from his sleeve (see “Of The New Day”), which they cut about the edge of kitsch, at the same time successfully overcoming it. But these are Porcupine Tree, and what makes it easy to listen at first is easily complicated. The above-mentioned song – by the way, with purely radio potential – is built on the constantly changing lengths of individual bars. And these are the ones that are difficult to grasp details in the construction of dozens of new songs (in the digital version, the vinyl edition is exactly three poorer), which create an incomprehensible and explicitly unnameable tension, which nourishes these thoughtful musical landscapes and interconnects them.

True, when we read about bar lengths, mathematically accurately calculated rhythm changes, and so on, it may be a little intellectual, but not an end in itself. Some element of unexpectedness was always present in the work of this formation. When Steven Wilson embarks on a distinctive art pop on his latest record, “Closure / Continuation” continues essentially where “The Incident” ended. Darkness and sound sophistication remain, hard passages have somewhat disappeared at the expense of accessibility and airiness. It was as if the principal was a little on the hands of his own fans acquired outside the Porcupine Tree. For example, such a “Dignity” could easily be in the repertoire of another of his Blackfield projects. It doesn’t matter. The album, although the shortest in the entire discography of the band, is clearly a team work, all the musical elements fit together smoothly, the contribution of all three members is basically equal. The compositions follow each other – although the break between the end of the physical version and “Population Three”, which opens the digital variant, is evident and the last three pieces are really just a bonus – and form a coherent whole that maintains a high quality bar.

On the other hand, few really surprise here. Let’s believe that “Closure / Continuation” is really the opening of a new chapter. You just can’t get rid of the impression that it’s just a kind of add-on to the existing one. Distinctive, excellent, filled with enthusiasm for joint work, which is passed on to the listeners anyway. The good feeling of returning is priceless, but here it is all too obviously built of already tested, albeit honestly dusted and newly thrown bricks. And that’s unfortunately a little small for the format of Steven Wilson and his teammates. Yet this return makes sense, indeed it does.
